Event Details

Photography translated from the Greek literally means drawing with light. This event with photographer Veronica Nicholson will involve a walk to explore the practice of photography and the impact of light. This event is for adults and all participants are encouraged to bring their cameras. There will also be a short introduction to the invention of photography and the event will conclude [in darkness] with people experimenting with light painting photography, using a torch or light to draw something or write a word while the shutter of the camera is left open during a long exposure photograph. By shooting in a dark location and using long exposure photography the flashes, streaks, colours, textures, and trails of light created by the torch can be captured in a photograph. The event at Birr Castle Demense will include a visit to Mary Rosse’s nineteenth-century photographic dark room, the oldest surviving dark room in the world.
