A large number of golfers gathered in Esker Hills Golf Club which is just outside Tullamore, during this year’s Midlands Science Festival to learn all about the role science plays in improving their swing.
Jackie Gorman of Midlands Science said,
‘We are delighted to welcome Dr Ian Kenny of the University of Limerick [UL] to Esker Hills Golf Club to explore the science of golf during Science Week 2018. Ian is a senior lecturer in Biomechanics at the University of Limerick and is involved with an interdisciplinary research group at UL which is focussed on golf performance. His PhD research was on golf performance and he worked within the R&D team for the R&A Rules Ltd. in St. Andrews for the duration of his PhD research.’
“What Happens Next ?” is an interactive lecture delivered by David Featonby and is suitable for primary school classes from 4th class up. The experiments often have quite unexpected outcomes, which enables further discussion or experimentation to take place. Subjects covered include forces, light and reflections, heat transfer and electricity. Students in Longford today enjoyed learning in a fun and engaging way.
