Join Midlands Science and the fantastic Bohemian Strings Quartet for a unique concert
Join Midlands Science and the fantastic Bohemian Strings Quartet for a unique concert. Sit back and enjoy a range of popular tunes, movie themes and classical hits with MC Claire O’Connell, a science communicator and music fan. Between tunes, we’ll hear a little about why we all love music so much, what happens in our brain when we listen to music and how we can use music to help us when we are feeling stressed. So come along to this free concert and learn a little about the science of music, while you sing along with your favourite tunes.
Bohemian Strings have performed with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, Mick Flannery, Richard Clayderman and many more. This event exploring the science of music will include classic hits from the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Depeche Mode, the score from the Mission and a number of classical favourites. Please note a ticket is for one person. Events sometimes book up quickly and we have waiting lists so please if you can’t attend for some reason, please do let us know. This event is supported by Research Ireland as part of national Science Week and is presented in association with Athlone Library.

The Teddy Bears Hospital is hosted by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Paediatrics Society so if teddy needs stiches come along!!
This event is part of the Midlands Science Festival and will be hosted by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Paediatrics Society through a special pop up teddy bears hospital in Athlone. This event introduces children to healthcare in a fun and friendly way, helping to ease any worries they may have surrounding the hospital environment. Through a number of stations such as the emergency station, phlebotomy, or pharmacy, every teddy bear brought along will receive a wide range of care and a fun experience through the Teddy Bear Hospital. The event is suitable for children aged 2 and up, and they are welcome to bring any teddy bear that needs a short hospital visit. Attendance is free of charge, but donations are welcome, with all proceeds going to a chosen charity by the RCSI Paediatrics Society. This event is part of the Midlands Science Festival and is supported by Research Ireland and kindly hosted by Athlone Library. There will be photography and filming at this event.
