Event Details

To link with some guests we have at our Discovery Day from the 501st Legion, we’ve decided to explore some of the science of Star Wars and share some Star Wars inspired knitting patterns with you. Contact jgorman@midlandsscience.ie for Death Star and Lightsaber patterns and these patterns include the science of these items too !

Besides being fun, knitting can help your maths !! Addition and subtraction is used in counting stitches as you cast on/off, increases/decreases, numbers of rows/inches, etc. Multiplication is used to calculate stitches per inch  which can tell the size of the finished item while division of total tells you how many stitches per inch; we also maths to compare yarn weights and to see what happens when we are increasing/decreasing the size of a garment by inserting/removing a pattern repeat.
